5th Annual Ron Petersen Memorial African Dinner
March 8, 2008
California Building, Idlewild Park, Reno, Nevada

The African Dinner is in collaboration with International Development Missions (IDM), and is SAIWI’s largest fundraiser. The first African Dinner was held in February, 2004 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, and was attended by approximately 100 people.  Proceeds were originally earmarked for trips to Africa in the first two years of the African Dinner. In the latest 3 African Dinners, proceeded have simply been used to fund all trips and all operations of SAIWI throughout the year. Other aspects of the event include a silent auction, the selling of crafts by IDM and other groups, wonderful entertainment by Java Djembe or similar entertainment, a donor letter campaign (started in 2007), and SAIWI and IDM presentations.

While our main goal with the AD is to raise money, we want attendees to enjoy themselves, eat good food, be entertained, and learn about SAIWI.

In 2008, we had over 200 attendees, 30 active SAIWI and IDM members working to make the dinner happen, and raised $10,000 for future trips. We’re very excited for next year’s 6th Annual African Dinner.

Please enjoy a selection of photos from this year's event.
