Dave Logothetti Memorial Asilomar Scholarship

Dave Logothetti from Santa Clara University was that all too rare combination--a great mathematician and a great mathematics educator; he was very instrumental in developing the California Mathematics Council, especially CMC-North, into the strong viable voice for teachers that it is today. In his memory, CMC-North gives free registration to the annual Asilomar Conference, including room and board and a one-year CMC membership to a new or student teacher from each of its affiliates. Each affiliate is responsible for choosing the recipient of the award and sets up its own requirements. NNMC is the administering affiliate of this scholarship.

Criteria for Selection:
  • One Dave Logothetti Memorial Asilomar Scholarship will be awarded yearly. Each scholarship is a one-time honor.
  • Asilomar is held in Monterey on the first weekend in December.
  • NNMC will not pay for substitute expenses.
  • Registration and room and board on the Asilomar grounds will be provided by the California Mathematics Council.
  • Recipients must be members of the Northern Nevada Mathematics Council.
  • Priority will be given to member teachers or a student teacher who has not previously attended a mathematics conference.
  • Recipients selected for this scholarship will be asked to write a review of the Asilomar Conference for the NNMC newsletter prior to reimbursement. This could include an activity from the conference.
  • Scholarship applicants must include a short description of the following information along with the application on the cover form:
    1. Information about yourself.
    2. Your interest in mathematics.
