  Course title EDU 204 - Information Technology in Teaching
  Course description

This course identifies and illustrates technology applications in education. Students will gain practical skills in using various software packages (i.e. MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint) that have universal application and will use these packages with classroom teaching applications in mind. The most important goal of the course, however, is to have students gain a fundamental understanding of the use of technology in teaching and learning.

  Course Goals
   

The successful student will demonstrate the ability to:
1. Relate the major teaching and learning theories to information technology applications in education.
2. Discuss issues and trends in educational computing.
3. Utilize hardware technology such as scanners and cameras
4. Acquire the skills and knowledge needed to successfully fulfill the electronic portfolio requirements set forth by the College of Education during the professional internship semester.
5. Discuss ways that computers can be used to automate some of the tasks that teachers perform.
6. Support the overall objectives of the College of Education.

  Assignments and Quizzes
  There is one quiz - 15 points There is one introductory quiz that you can take as many times as you like until the due date. The program will automatically record your highest attempt. It can be taken anywhere.
  Application Modules - 215 points total are accepted

Students have the opportunity to complete 215 points of application modules. Handing in a module does not guarantee full credit. All requirements for each assignment must be fulfilled in order to get full credit. Only a maximum of 215 points will be accepted for application module work.

Modules all have due dates. You will see sometimes you have to do all the modules that are due at that time or sometimes you only have to get 30 points out of the modules but you may choose to do them all. On the last set of modules, Misc. Modules, you may only get 20 points.

You may not get over 215 module points. If you do I will knock it back down.

  Assignment Information
   
  1. Modules may be completed prior to the due date but none will be accepted after the due date. Modules are usually due on WEDNESDAY at 11:30 am
  2. Lab attendants are there to help you. Be nice to your lab attendants!
  3. You can only receive 215module points !
  4. Plagiarism is academic dishonesty and will be dealt with as such. Working together to figure out assignments is encouraged but each student must do his/her independent work. Students found copying will be given a zero for that module at the very least. Cheating on quizzes will be dealt with according to UNR policy
  5. The lab closes at various times during the week. Please make note of closing times. Late assignments will not be accepted!!
  General Information
  Due Dates All work must be submitted completed by the dates and times listed at the end of this document. There is no provision for late work as it is not fair to the other students. There are no make-ups and no incomplete grades! It is your responsibility to make sure you are making adequate progress!
  Email For the purpose of this class ONLY THE WEBCT EMAIL account may be used to submit assignments unless otherwise noted in that module. To communicate with the instructor use the "E-mail" link on the WebCT homepage. I do not discuss grades via email. Please see me personally regarding any questions about student grades.

  Printing The extra fee paid for this course partially goes to printing. You may copy only material for this course. If one of the lab attendants sees you are printing something from outside this course your printing privileges will be revoked. You are encouraged to print out the modules you are working on.

    Points are not rounded up. There are no minus "-" grades. There is no extra credit and there are no incompletes given. Always check the "grade" link on the WebCT page to make sure you are getting the grade you want!
